The CS6716 is Comtech System’s state-of-the-art 16 Mbps digital troposcatter modem. Advanced features include Adaptive Link Power Control (ALPC) and Forward Error Correction. The front panel has a keypad for setting up the modem, and indicating status and link performance.

Improvements from the previous generations of modems include a more compact design, lighter weight, and 70% less power consumption. These changes ensure better performance, easier maintenance, fewer spare parts, and more robust and reliable operation. The standard configuration includes two complete modems in a redundant configuration with automatic fault detection and switchover. This design provides the ability to handle excessive multi-path and signal dispersion using adaptive equalization and diversity techniques. Built-in BER performance testing is provided via a dedicated channel in the TDM frame. This channel is available during normal operation without affecting user data traffic. Long-term BER performance measurements are available via user interfaces.

The modem’s versatility allows its use at a fixed site or in transportable terminals for tactical and strategic military applications.
