Commercial applications for troposcatter are typically for telephony service providers such as a PTT, and for offshore platforms. An example of commercial telephony is the Comtech Systems’ project in the Bahama Islands to provide troposcatter radio links to connect islands that are not accessible by microwave or other means. The troposcatter systems provide a link between telephone exchanges and cell sites on 9 islands. All the tropo links are 2 GHz, are equipped with Comtech’s advanced digital troposcatter modem and adaptive transmit power control, which minimizes transmit power and reduces interference problems with other services in the 2 GHz band.

Equipment is also available in the 4400-5000 MHz and 7400-7700 MHz band.
